Everybody and their mothers now know about the shooting of 17-year old Trayvon Martin in Florida on February 26, 2012. Opinions vary from racial stances to self-defense points of view, and from perspectives with not enough evidence to allowing Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law to suffice. Supporters come from both ends of the spectrum, yet Martin’s shooter, George Zimmerman, seems to think he has the world on his side.

The attorney of George Zimmerman, Craig Sonner, confirmed that Zimmerman has personally created a website strictly for his supporters and followers to donate money for his living and legal expenses. As a result of the media intensely closing in on Zimmerman’s actions of shooting the 17-year old Trayvon Martin, he has lost his job, his income, his family, his current education, and basically his entire life. In order for Zimmerman to put this case in his favor, he needs donations to maintain a stable life as a result of his “forced inability to maintain employment.” He links a PayPal site to his site for people to make these kind donations. The website, entitled www.therealgeorgezimmerman.com, contains statements written by Zimmerman himself. According to CBS News, Zimmerman closes the introduction with “I thank you for your patience and I assure you, the facts will come to light.”

The shooting of Trayvon Martin has been a national controversy for over a month. The facts given to the public were that Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch in Sandford, FL, saw Martin walking at night and called the police to report him for suspicious behavior. When Zimmerman confronted Martin, their quarrel ended up with Martin being shot, while Zimmerman claimed it was for self-defense purposes. There was not sufficient evidence for Zimmerman to be prosecuted for manslaughter, but also not sufficient evidence for this case to be dismissed.

Racial discrimination was sparked as a most suitable reason as to why Martin was shot in the first place. Martin, being an African American teenager walking around by himself at night with a hoodie on, was racially identified to the police over the phone by Zimmerman, without being asked for it first. There have been many rallies attended by thousands of people for the request of Zimmerman’s arrest, all of them supporting Trayvon Martin and debating racial discrimination.

Zimmerman periodically repeats in his website, “I thank you for your patience and I assure you, the facts will come to light.” Trayvon Martin’s life will never be forgotten, and no one will rest until his shooting is brought to justice.
