Payne vs. Oakley on Twitter

A One Direction member caught a case of foot in mouth disease after tweeting known homophobe about supporting his ‘family values’ and receives plenty of flak for it.

On Saturday 1/17/14 One Direction member Liam Payne was criticized for ‘supporting’ homophobic Duck Dynasty star Willie Robertson after tweeting him.  “@williebosshog huge love to you/your family huge respect for your business prosperities and the family values you still all behold. big fan.” While there is no evidence in the tweet that Payne supports Robertson’s homophobic feelings, with all the gossip and drama surrounding that reality TV star you can see why people drew conclusions. YouTube personality and self-proclaimed fan girl Tyler Oakley expressed his disbelief in this tweet, “Wow. Very confused and disappointed by this @Real_Liam_Payne tweet. This literally changes everything…” Payne deleted his tweet quickly and posted a follow up saying “Being a fan of someones show and the way they still hold a family together doesnt mean i am ok with all they say.”

For me, this tweet clarified everything, with One Directions vast success it makes sense why Liam looks up to Willie, considering he may someday want to have a family.  He said nothing at all referring to his beliefs just his family values.  And with the Westboro Baptist protesters this past summer at the bands Kansas City concert I really have a hard time believing that Payne would support anything that would be anti- One Direction.  After leaving Twitter for around a day Liam came back to much more drama than he had expected and articles written about him calling him homophobic.   The star then went on an Amanda Bynes worthy twitter rant referring to the writers of numerous articles as #lazyjournos.  As much as I can see the point Liam is trying to make, he probably shouldn’t have tweeted Willie Robertson. On the other hand Tyler Oakley should have refrained from calling Payne a bigot in another tweet.

My advice to Liam would be to make a quick video explaining what he meant to the world, delete his rant, and put this past him.  As for Oakley he should try to regain his subscribers because he took a huge hit from his tweet about Payne.
