The Journey Through High School

The Journey Through High School

Melanie Orcutt

High School. Four years of growing up and probably a time in your life where you go through the most changes. In high school you are able to discover yourself and find out who you are as a person. Each year is special and unique in their own way.

Wahoo! You made it you are finally in high school. You are now a freshman and at the bottom of the food chain. All eyes are on you because lets face it, your new and everyone wants to see what you have to bring to the table. Not only are your peers watching you with close eyes but teachers and coaches as well. Freshmen year academically can sometimes be overlooked. Kids have such a busy schedule compared to middle schools days and balancing your schedule is a common struggle. However, it is always best to try your hardest because messing up one year or even term will haunt you and your GPA for the rest of your high school career. So even though your social life will be crazy freshman year, always make sure to save some time for school work too. You will appreciate it in the long run.

Next comes sophomore year. To be honest sophomore year can be looked at to be  pretty boring. The  beginning can still be fun  because you still have some left over excitement from freshman year, but after that it sort of wears off. You are no longer looked as new and people have already came up with their perspectives of you. You are not at the bottom at of the food chain anymore but you have not yet climbed the ladder to become an upperclassmen. Another thing that is the evil of all evils that can occur during sophomore year for some students is Algebra II. If you take Geometry freshman year than Algebra II is next on the list. For me personally, it was the pain of my existence. Other than that, the best word to describe sophomore year is alright.

Now what? Yup you got it, Junior year!! Arguably the most important year of your high school career. You are finally an upperclassmen and this is your year to shine. It is the time to build up your resume and boost up your grades to end your year with the best grades you can to put on your transcripts. The classes are manageable too because by now you know the routine of things and have a better idea of time management. Another perk of junior year, for girls particularly, is Junior Prom! Junior year is a good one so enjoy it and study hard!

Last but not least is Senior year! Yay you made it one more year to go! Senior year is filled with activities and there is always lots of work to do. In the fall you are busy with trying to get the best grades you can in order to boost your GPA to its highest potential. Along with working your butt off with school work, it is the time to show off in sports and do your best, especially if you are looking into doing a sport in college. Lastly, something you do that is specific to senior year is actually applying to college. It is the time where you decide your future. Although it its busy and a bit stressful at times. It is really fun and exciting so have fun and enjoy! What is your favorite and why?  Sound off in the comments section!
