Milan Lucic: The Heart of the Bruins

Danielle Sinatra

Boston Bruins star Milan Lucic is one of the most physical players in the NHL. I aspire to play hockey just like how he does.

When Lucic is on the ice, you know it’s going to be an intense game. He always puts his full effort into the game and gives it all he’s got. He rocks number 17 and mainly starts at left wing for the B’s. Lucic has a reputation of being a tough guy and he frequently gets in fights with players from opposing teams. Lucic is just 25 years old as he was born on June 7th, 1988. He has a younger brother named Nikola and an older brother named Jovan. Milan got married back in 2012 to Brittany Carnegie and they have a baby daughter named Valentina.

So far this season, Milan Lucic has racked up 24 goals and 34 assists. On April 5th against the Philadelphia Flyers, Lucic showcased his incredible scoring abilities by notching two goals. These two goals would be crucial for the Bruins as they would go on to win game with the score being 5-2. Just for playing on a National Hockey Team, his salary is just about 2.25 million dollars. He was one of the top offensive players during the 2013 playoffs. Before Milan got his break with the Bruins, he had started off his junior career with the Western Hockey League’s Vancouver Giants in 2004. In 2007, he was Captain of Canada’s Junior International team – a very impressive accomplishment considering the amount of hockey talent coming from Canada.

Lucic is a native of Vancouver, Canada. However, recently there was an issue that had occurred involving his home city. A couple weeks ago, he was verbally attacked by people from Vancouver. Lucic was quoted as saying that other than being at Rogers Arena, people will never see him in downtown Vancouver again and that he is done trying to defend the city he’s from. Back in 2011, the Bruins defeated Vancouver at the Rogers Center in the deciding game of the Stanley Cup Finals. Vancouver didn’t take the outcome of the game very well and fans rioted for days after the heartbreaking loss.

2011 was a thrilling and memorable year for all Bruins fans. The Bruins started the season shaky but progressed throughout the season and got hot in the playoffs. The Bruins took their momentum and made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals. On Wednesday, June 1, 2011, Game 1 was played in Vancouver and the Canucks defeated the Bruins 1-0. Saturday, June 4, 2011 was Game 2 and the Canucks won again with the score of 3-2, played in Vancouver also. Game 3 took place on Monday, June 6, 2011 in Boston and the Bruins struck back with a dominant 8-1 victory. Game 4 also was played in Boston on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 and the Bruins shutout the Canucks 4-0. Game 5 was played in Boston on Friday, June 10, 2011. The score of that game was 1-0 but unfortunately the Bruins were on the losing end. Monday, June 13, 2011, Game 6 was played in Boston. The Bruins had that game with the score of 5-2. When it was time for Game 7, there was a lot of tension in the rink. All players were extremely focused and determined in the game. The outcome of this was great for one team but horrible for the other. On Wednesday, June 15, 2011 the Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup in Vancouver and claimed the title of Stanley Cup Champions of the 2010-2011. Lucic was a key reason to the Bruins run and they couldn’t have done it without him. Lucic is a very tough and gritty player who has experienced much success in his career with the Bruins. He is my inspiration and my motivation to get on the rink and play hockey.
