Boys Soccer Team’s Unbelievable Run

Hannah Dziadyk and John Laurina

The Wakefield High School boys varsity soccer team made it all the way to the state finals this season but  were sadly defeated 2-0 by Swampscott in the D3N championship game at Manning Field in Lynn, MA. At halftime it was tied 0-0 but eventually Swampscott pulled away with the win. Before getting to the Championship game the Wakefield team faced Tewksbury in Round 1, winning 2-0 on goals scored by Junior Juan Maysonet and Senior Mo Janga. They went on to defeat Pentucket 2-1, on  goals by Juniors Mike Leven and Dan Sallade. They also beat Triton 1-0, with the lone goal being scored by Senior Mark Melanson . The boys fought hard every game and worked well with each other. The team’s overall record for the season was 9-8-6 and the league record was 7-4-5.  Zach Dascoli  did a great job at goalie this year with countless saves, and the team was led  by the 2015 team captains: Seniors Andrew Auld, Mark Melanson, and Jon Ingalls.

Despite the loss, this a season to celebrate. The team will attend a banquet,  to be held on December 14, 2015 at the Montvale Plaza. This is a season that they will not forget for the rest of their lives.

The soccer team will face many changes next year. Moving on are the seniors: Andrew Auld, Mark Melanson, Jon Ingalls, Mo Janga, Zach Dascoli, and Andrew DeCecca. The boys will have 16 returning varsity players. The coaching staff will remain the same, with head coach Matt Angelo, assistants Marc Leblanc and Jim Fitzgerald, and the goalie coach Ryan DiBenedetto. There are going to be big expectations to live up to for the boys next season. Good luck!
